I’m Kathy Pine, jewelry designer and owner of WorldWise Jewelry. My interest in making jewelry began wwaaayyyyy back in the mid-60s when my best friend and I used to spend hours making seed bead rings — one to match every outfit we owned. That craze died down and my jewelry making with it until the mid-70s when macrame was all the rage and I again made a few pieces of jewelry. I skipped the 80s and didn’t make anything new until the mid-90s when the jewelry bug really hit me. That’s when I found a book that explained how to make wire-wrapped jewelry — and I was hooked for good.
While I’m primarily self-taught, I’ve taken a number of classes on the design and creation of art jewelry, including classes with Arline Fisch who is the world’s foremost expert in adapting textile techniques for metal.
This blog is about the path I’m following to establish a successful artisan jewelry business, while staying true to my core values of treating our world and its inhabitants kindly. I incorporate the use of ethically sourced materials to create handcrafted jewelry designs that are both beautiful and meaningful. Using fair trade beads, reclaimed precious metals, and other recycled and renewable materials is my way of contributing to a better world and taking my art to the next level.
