The Kazuri Bead Company was started in 1975 in Nairobi, Kenya by Lady Susan Wood. Initially fewer than 10 women were employed making beads in Lady Wood's gardenshed. Word of the beauty and uniqueness of the beads spread, and Kazuri grew. It now employs 350 men and women. The nonprofit organization Global Colors has partnered with Kazuri Beads to create greater awareness of the Kazuri artisans and their product.
